“Intrusive Thoughts”

My soundscape is largely unpleasant to listen to. It is chaotic and at times (frequently) the loudness is jarring. I wanted to create what a chaotic and uncomfortable brain sounds like sometimes. A classmate suggested “Intrusive Thoughts” as a title because in a sense that is exactly what it sounds like. There is no plot, there is no narrative. Many of my classmates attempted to take us on a journey through only sound. However, I felt like taking a different direction so that if anything it would be impossible to interpret a plotline to my sound. Throughout the sound, my voice repeats. In the first half, I reversed the sound I originally made and looped it. I had added a different effect on every sound I put together so, in the end it was difficult to decipher what was being played and especially what was said. In the second half, the loop played in the original direction so it was possible to decipher what I was saying. I used primarily distortion effects but also some echo effects on my voice and on the louder sounds. I was saying “hurry up” over and over again. At the beginning of the sound it is the opening & starting of the microwave sound in reverse. So, the whole thing is basically a chaotic microwave that is also intrusive thoughts… kind of. Mostly I made my main goal to make it obnoxious. That is how my brain sounds most of the time. Loud, repetitive, craving a moment of peace. It’s a bit rough but also accurate.
